Our department has a wide range
of research activities currently ongoing. These areas can be
divided into four main groups: (1) bioanalytical and environmental, (2) materials
and physical, (3) organic
and
bioorganic and (4) nuclear
chemistry. Each of these areas provides the student with an
opportunity to learn important new research techniques and skills
including the handling of air and moisture-sensitive reagents,
multi-step organic synthesis, crystallization, flash chromatography,
nuclear magnetic resonance, infra red spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy,
X-ray crystal analysis, high pressure liquid chromatography and optical
polarimetry. There are opportunities to conduct research during
the summer as well as the academic year. In order to obtain the best possible
match, students are encouraged to contact the faculty
member(s) directly whose
ongoing projects coincides with the student's own interests.
You may also contact Dr. Chris Pastorek
for additional information concerning possible research opportunities.
Financial support is possible through the OSU Research
Office and the URISC Program.
